Teacher in Charge: Mr P. Washbourn
Recommended Prior LearningOutdoor Education at Level 2 is an advantage, or a background in outdoor activity.
This course is designed to provide students with a thorough grounding in the skills and understanding that are required to operate in the bush and back-country of Aotearoa New Zealand. There are three 3-day overnight trips relating to bushcraft and tramping skills in which students will demonstrate practical skills. These are:
3-day Casey-Binser Tramp, Arthur's Pass National Park
3-day Cass-lagoon survival skills Tramp, Craigieburn Forest Park
3-day Outdoor Emergency Care camp, Craigieburn Forest Park
Level 3 Unit standards will be used to assess skills and knowledge.
Assessment has a practical component that must be assessed in outdoor contexts. This means students must make themselves available for the overnight trips to be eligible to achieve the standards.
A Donation request will be made for each overnight trip. These trips are run as cheaply as possible. We will be requesting approximately $40 for each of the 3-day tramps and $80 for the outdoor Emergency care camp. Donations request seek to recover reasonable costs of transport, accommodation where required and food were provided.
