The Aquatics semester involves completing the New Zealand Swim Teachers Award. The award is a combination of theory and practical swimming activities culminating in a teaching practicum. The SPA32S students will teach the junior after school programmes at the Graham Condon Centre over a full term. Sessions run from 3.30- 5.30pm once a week. Students are able to select the day they wish to complete their shadowing hours. Students do not need to be strong swimmers, all skills are taught.

It is an internationally recognised qualification and any many students begin paid teaching positions at the Graham Condon Centre before completing the course.

All assessments are Unit Standards and are internally assessed.

Students that complete the New Zealand Swim Teachers Award can work as Swim Instructors at any swimming pool in New Zealand and internationally.
