Year 9 English is a core subject for four periods per week.
WHAT THE COURSE WILL COVER:
Students will learn how to communicate effectively by developing their reading, writing and speaking skills. Students will also learn how to interpret what is being communicated to them through a variety of mediums.
METHODS OF LEARNING:
Students will develop English skills by collaborating in creative writing activities, reading and experiencing different texts, speaking confidently in front of peers and investigating the voices of Aotearoa.
WHERE DOES THE SUBJECT LEAD:
English is a compulsory subject in Years 10 and 11.
Students will use the skills they learn in English every day and in any career they pursue. It is essential to be a good communicator and to fully understand what is being communicated.
Year 9 English provides valuable communication skills for life; it prepares students for Year 10 English and beyond. English may be taken through to Year 13. At Levels 2 and 3 students may opt to take Media Studies.
