Course Description

Physics is the fundamental description of the physical world we live in. Students will study mechanics, waves, electricity and modern physics in theory and carry out investigations. People working in industries involving Physics come in and speak to students during the year about what they do and how they became involved in their career.
This course provides up to 19 credits towards NCEA Level 3 and if a student achieves 14 Level 3 credits in this course it will be counted as an approved subject for University Entrance. An opportunity is also given for students to undertake an additional internal standard (Physics 3.2 - Demonstrate understanding of the application of physics to a selected context.). This standard is optional and is done in the student's own time.
Future Possibilities
Physics is essential for a huge range of careers including all aspects of engineering, hi-tech industries such as software development and IT, medicine, being a pilot, forensics, electronics and architecture. This course is essential for those wishing to pursue Engineering or Sciences at University and it is highly recommended for those wishing to pursue Health Sciences.
