Course Description

WHAT THE COURSE WILL COVER:

The Year 9 Science course is built to introduce students to the Nature of Science and what it means to do Science. This involves developing skills around gathering and interpreting data, questioning, interpreting models and representations, evaluating evidence, and engaging with real world science. This will be done through a variety of contexts and build knowledge of the key strands of Science.

 

 

METHODS OF LEARNING:

Students will learn by investigating aspects of science. This includes listening, watching, researching, thinking, drawing, talking and trying things out. Working cooperatively in groups is the key to learning in Science.

Learning is assessed in a variety of different ways, including practical tasks, written tests, research and presentations.

 

 

WHERE DOES THE SUBJECT LEAD:

Studying Science helps prepare students for the future and will help make informed decisions in their everyday lives. It gives a wide choice of subjects in the senior school. In Year 12 and 13, Science splits into six separate subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space Science, Electronics and Agriculture and Horticulture. Many careers require the skills that can be gained by taking Science subjects.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 9 Science is a core subject for four periods per week.
