WHAT THE COURSE WILL COVER:
Food technology enables students to research and adapt recipes to develop solutions to needs or opportunities.
In this course of study, students will develop a healthy snack for an individual whilst participating in both theory and practical lessons. Students will develop a wide range of food skills to a high standard.
Topics covered:
- Basic food preparation skills
- Self-management and decision making
- Food wastage and how to reduce waste
- Development of a food product
- An awareness of the social and environmental impact of food products
WHERE DOES THE SUBJECT LEAD?
Food Technology leads on to several NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3 courses:
- Year 11-13 Food & Nutrition (FNU31F is an approved subject for University Entrance)
- Year 11-13 Catering & Hospitality
- Year 12 Childcare
