Course Description

WHAT THE COURSE WILL COVER:

Students will learn how to communicate effectively by developing their reading, writing and speaking skills. They will also learn how to critically interpret what is being communicated to them.

 

METHODS OF LEARNING:

Through a variety of learning techniques, including collaboration and using visual, verbal and written stimuli, students will focus on formal writing, reading a variety of texts, speaking confidently and investigate the way language works.

 

WHERE DOES THE SUBJECT LEAD?

English is compulsory in Year 11.

Students use the literacy skills they learn in English every day and in whatever career they pursue.  It is essential to be a good communicator and to be able to fully understand what is being communicated.

Year 10 English will provide valuable communication skills for life. English prepares students for Year 11 English and beyond. English may be taken through to Year 13. At Level 2 and 3, students may opt to take Media Studies.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 10 English is a core subject of five periods per week.
